MANUFACTURING AND QUALITY CONTROL
Ongoing research related to production and processing ensures practical and cost-effective methods of providing high temperature coatings. MiTi® has transitioned the coatings from research and development to full manufacture of high temperature coatings, specifically designed for high speed, high temperature rotating machinery. Surface analytical tools and adhesion testing are used to ensure deposition of high-quality coatings.

SOLID FILM LUBRICANTS
The solid film lubricants are materials, which are firmly bonded to the surface of a substrate, and poses inherent lubricating properties. These thin films prevent surface to surface contact, reducing friction and wear between mating surfaces. The lubricant actually becomes a protective layer between the two mating surfaces. The solid lubricants are usually made from a mixture of a variety of lubricating materials including Molybdenum Disulfide, Tungsten Disulfide, Boron Nitride, Silicon Carbide, Silver and Polytetrafluoroethylene.

ADVANTAGES OF SOLID FILM LUBRICANTS
Extends wear life
Lowers coefficient of Friction
Prevents galling, fretting and seizing
Withstands extreme temperatures
Provides corrosion resistance
Provides high performance lubrication
Provides dry lubrication

COATING APPLICATION METHODS
The Korolon™ solid film lubricants are applied by a conventional spray gun process. Optimum coating thickness is 0.001inch (25.4 microns).

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
Substantial investment has been made into the coating research and development facilities at MiTi®. Five spray gun coating systems are dedicated to research programs into both new and improved coating and equipment.

COATING TEST EQUIPMENT
The laboratory includes facilities for friction and wear testing using a coating start-up and shutdown tribometer and a high speed, high temperature tribometer designed by MiTi®.

START-UP AND SHUTDOWN COATING TESTER HSB-20
The HSB-20 is a 20,000rpm, room temperature tribometer used to evaluate coatings subject to unidirectional sliding under a variety of loads. Measured parameters including starting/coast down torque, steady state torque and speed. The nominal test journal diameter is 35mm.

HIGH-SPEED, HIGH TEMPERATURE TRIBOMETER HTP-40
This sophisticated tribometer is capable of testing at high speeds of 40,000 rpm and temperatures up to 1500°F and is readily modified to permit either pin-on-disk, roller-on-disk or pad on disk testing. Wear testing can be done in a unidirectional test. The computer software enables recording of friction against time or number of test cycles.
